Her first night

Last night Scarlett slept in her big girl bed in her new big girl room. All of this suddenly came about..I was hoping to put off the big girl room for a while, but fate had other plans. As I have told you before, Scarlett started climbing out of her crib recently. In hopes that it was just a phase, Bryan and I would endure sleepless nights of putting her back into her bed while she would turn right around and plop out. I say plop because she would literally toss a leg over the railing and plop right onto the floor. To ensure that our daughter would not end up with a broken arm or collar bone, a decision had to be made and fast.
So, yesterday afternoon, on a whim, we decided that Scarlett needed a new start. A new toddler bed and a new big girl room. We switched her bedroom with our guest room, put her new bed in and gave it a little decoration (if any of you know me well, the decoration part is not finished and I will be garage saling like a madwoman for cool stuff!) Anyway, we pumped her up last night as she was helping us move her into her new room. The time had come for bedtime...I was nervous. What would my little baby feel like without rails on all 4 sides to hold her in and keep her safe? Will she be ok farther away from me? Will this be the end of her baby days? As I was pondering and on the brink of tears, I prayed with Scarlett. We prayed for a safe and peaceful night, and for her to feel secure as God's angels flew over her to protect her. We read two books, drank her warm milk, and gave eskimo and lip kisses. Then, I closed the door.
What happens next made me miserable...she cried so hard she threw up...twice. Here we go into the room, I changed her clothes, wiped her down, Bryan cleaned the floor. Lets try this again...Super Nanny has a "floor technique" that works for her...so I sat on the floor next to her bed until she drifted off. EUREKA! I had a sleeping baby...I tiptoed out of the room to collapse on the couch. We headed off to bed, not knowing when we were going to have to wake up again.
I heard her cry out at some point, but I didn't go to her rescue. I wanted to see if she could get herself back to sleep. She cried for about 30 minutes and then I didn't hear anything, so I went back to sleep thinking that she soothed herself back into a slumber. I awoke this morning and quietly opened the door to check on my big girl. I looked in the bed, expecting to see a little angel curled up and asleep. No angel in the bed...instead my little angel was...are you ready for this?.... on the floor butt naked laying face down on top of all of her toys! I freaked out! Why didn't she have her clothes on?!!!!! Poor baby was laying on Mr. Potato Head and a CD that she had taken out of the player. Her blankie was wadded up underneath her. OH MY GOSH! I didn't know whether to grab the camera or go grab Bryan...I picked the latter...Bryan got up to see her and we both looked at each other with the most confused, humored faces! It was funny to see her out cold naked as a jay bird on top of a mound of toys. I'm thinking she started playing and then decided to play strip poker with her baby dolls and she lost. Let's hope tonight she keep the clothes on and stays in the bed! Forgive me for not taking a picture, now I wished I would have. I was just so shocked to find her that way that I picked her up, put a fresh diaper on her, clothed her and held her tight. My baby had just survived her first night.

L.O.L. My guess is there was a little bit of booze involved in that strip poker... I can't even imagine how hilarious that looked. Next time, my friend, camera first- husband second!

Oh Jodi!! I laughed OUT LOUD! Poor, sweet baby! I know those days are ahead of me with my little man, because he practically does flips in his crib. I think he's staying in there until he's 15. Keep us posted on how she is doing...

Bless you...
